Then, we ride back to the starting point.<\/p>\n<p>You can request a tandem bike from our fleet and\/or one of our trained volunteer pilots. Bring your own tandem or other bike and pilot. Everyone is welcome!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please RSVP to join us for the ride, request a bike and\/or pilot: <\/strong><br \/>\nEmail: BlindSportsNS@gmail.com<br \/>\nCall or text Jennie: 902 449 0320<br \/>\nRSVP on the Facebook event<\/p>\n<p>Rain date &amp; time: Sunday, October 13, 2024, 10 AM to about 12 PM<br \/>\nThe ride is not for absolute beginners.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, sans-serif;\"><strong>September, 2024 Tandem Bike Program Updates<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Easier Access to Bikes <\/strong><br \/>\nThanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/sportnovascotia.ca\/funding-programs-and-eligibility\/\">Sport Nova Scotia EDIA funding<\/a>, a brand new storage shed dedicated to our tandem biking program is in place, still just a kilometre from the Chain of Lakes Trail head.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The unit is equipped with an accessible padlock, which means bikes can be borrowed and returned with more ease than ever. We give you the temporary code and you\u2019re on your way.<\/p>\n<p>A camera and lighting help keep everything safe.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orientation Sessions<\/strong><br \/>\nWe\u2019re accepting requests for one-on-one orientation sessions\u00a0for both riders who are blind and visually impaired (stokers) and pilots.<\/p>\n<p>No experience necessary for stokers, we\u2019ll get you acquainted with how to ride safely and confidently.<\/p>\n<p>Pilots (the person who rides in front, steers, and brakes) are confident cyclists with experience.\u00a0Pilots can be a trusted friend or family member.<\/p>\n<p>Volunteer pilots may be available upon request. Our volunteers are confident, experienced, cyclists, who\u2019ve completed orientation with Blind Sports NS.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Major Tune-Ups<\/strong><br \/>\nOur fleet of tandem bikes needed some extra love and a few repairs this season. Helmets are always required, we follow the rules of the road, and all riders of all kinds are required to receive orientation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Who&#8217;s Tandem Biking For?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Participants with all levels and types of vision loss are welcome<\/li>\n<li>No experience necessary (we&#8217;ll show you the ropes!)<\/li>\n<li>Participants of all ages are welcome (we&#8217;ll do our very best to find a bike that fits your height &amp; needs)<\/li>\n<li>Tandem biking may also be a good fit for participants who have other disabilities or mobility restrictions.<\/li>\n<li>Your orientation session and first bike ride are FREE. Our\u00a0pilots are\u00a0experienced, confident, cyclists, who are passionate about making cycling accessible for everyone.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Our volunteers\u00a0receive training, including sighted guide technique, a vision loss 101 course, tandem biking best practices, and more.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteers are available for group bike rides hosted by Blind Sports NS, individual requests, community events, and more.<\/li>\n<li>Whether you&#8217;re a cyclist with vision loss and would like to go out for a long or short trail ride on the weekend, run a few errands around town a weeknight evening, or participate in a triathlon, we&#8217;ll connect you with trained volunteer pilot.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Volunteering<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Are you an experienced and confident cyclist? Want to help us share the joy of cycling with people in the community living\u00a0with vision loss, while having a great time? We&#8217;d love to hear from you.<\/li>\n<li>Receive the above-described training and choose how and when you volunteer.
