2nd Annual NS Open Goalball Tourney THIS Weekend!
The 2nd Annual Nova Scotia Open Goalball Tournament takes place this weekend at Citadel Community Centre in Halifax!! Admission is free, so don’t miss the chance to check out this unique Paralympic sport at the only tournament of its kind in the Maritimes!

Rio 2016 Paralympics Wrap Up
First off, Four visually impaired Paralympians beat Olympic gold time in 1,500

Day 4 saw Canadian men lost a tough game to Algeria 17-13 and the women to China 8-3. On Day 5, the Canadian men played with heart but lost 7-3 against Sweden, while the women shut out Australia 6 to 0.

Canadian Blind Sports/Sports Aveugles Canada September 14
Team Canada Men’s Team played an exceptional game against Goalball powerhouse Lithuania.
The team lead 2-1 at half-time, and were tied 4-4 at full-time. The two teams remained tied through 1 overtime period.
Unfortunately, the team could not withstand the onslaught, succumbing 5-4 at 1:35 of the second overtime.
As an organization, we are extremely proud of these 6 young men. Tokyo here we come!
Unfortunately, the Rio 2016 Paralympics are over for Canadian Goalball. The women played a hard-fought defensive battle against the US, losing 2-0 on two goals by Jen Armbruster.
The six women Played exceptional, but could not find a hole in the tight US Defence!
Here’s hoping Lithuania men & US women win gold as we would place 5th with both teams (highest ranking we can have not being in the semi-finals).

We’re trying to up-to-date on the all the Rio 2016 Paralympic action, especially goalball! Yesterday, the Canadian men took the first goalball win, beating Germany 5 to 7. The Canadian women’s goalball team beat Ukraine 3 to 2 today. Volunteer Pilot Orientation (Tandem Biking)
Join us to learn more about the tandem bike club and how to be an effective volunteer tandem bike pilot for individuals with vision loss. We’ll also cover the basics of sighted-guide technique and you can experience riding as a stoker under blindfold.
How it Works
Tandem biking (on a bicycle for 2), with the help of a volunteer pilot, makes getting active in the great outdoors with friends, family, and peers more accessible for individuals who are blind and partially sighted. A pilot rides in front, steering, shifting gears, and communicating effectively with the stoker (person riding on the back seat).
Ways to Ride with Us
Become a Pilot – Receive training from an experienced pilot then choose to pilot for individual requests and/or group and event rides! You should be confident riding a bike, have experience riding in different environments, and be a good verbal communicator.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to this event, we still welcome you to volunteer, as we offer training on an ongoing basis.

Blind Sports NS congratulates Simon Richard on his upcoming Paralympic debut in Rio! He has played with the Nova Scotia men’s goalball team, contributing to their many successes. Simon is an exceptional and beyond driven athlete. The countdown to Rio 2016 is on! Go Canada Go!!
